Q: Why don’t building codes specify E-values as well as R-values?

A: In the last century, the only cost-effective insulation for the home was mass insulation like fiberglass, cellulose and foam that reduced heat transfer by convection and conduction. The “R-value” was the measure of how good a job those insulators did. Yet R-value measures only the smallest part of residential heat transfer. E-value is the measure of emissive, radiant heat transfer, the principle source of energy loss. New technologies make it practical to achieve extremely low emissive in window glass and in a reflective film ideal for the attic. As these low-E technologies advance, the codes will catch up and E-value will replace R-value as the primary measure of energy efficiency.

Q: Will eShield™ installed in my attic trap mildew-causing moisture in my ceiling?

A: eShield™ is perforated to allow vapor to escape the housing envelope – it will not contribute to mildew growth in your home.

Q: Will eShield™ create a fire hazard in my attic?

A: eShield™ Attic Energy Barrier is fire-resistant – it’s less combustible than the structure to which it attaches. Of course, like almost any material, it will melt and eventually burn if exposed to an open flame.

Q: Can I get a rebate for installing eShield™?

A: eShield™ Attic Energy Barrier is Department of Energy approved and bears the Energystar® mark. This is the gold standard in energy efficiency and qualifies for most federal, state and energy company rebates. Check with your eShield™ rep to learn what’s available in your area.

Q: How does “LoE2 Glass” save energy?

A: Natural light is freely let into your home. During the winter the long-wave heat energy that radiates from indoor objects is reflected back into the house to maintain warmth while lowering heating costs. Meanwhile, when it warms up outside, the outdoor long-wave energy is reflected back outside, lowering your cooling costs.

LoE2 also cuts down ultraviolet rays, minimizing the fading effect of your carpet and draperies.

Q: What are the benefits of our Super Spacer® “warm edge” system?
A: Aside from the fact that Super Spacer® is the world’s first all-foam spacer system, there are plenty of reasons why we use it:

Durability: Since this system is comprised entirely out of foam and not metal, any distress from rain, snow, high winds and other elemental factors can be managed properly. The foam allows the system to contract and expand when necessary and will always return back to its original shape. Without this spacer’s memory foam, your windows can eventually fall prey to cracks and seal malfunctions. Plus, since our Super Spacer® “warm edge” system has two seals, your windows last five times longer than those constructed with just one seal.

Reduced condensation: The Super Spacer® “warm edge” spacer doesn’t conduct hot and cold as does standard aluminum spacers, keeping the indoor and outdoor temperature differences from building condensation within your panes. Less condensation, of course, means fewer stains and damage to your windows and walls.
Greater insulation: Again, versus standard aluminum spacers, our “warm edge” spacers keep from conducting energy from the comfort of your home. After all, you want more than just the glass of your energy efficient window to be energy efficient.

Sound absorption: Acting as a sponge, very little sound is channeled through your windows due in large part to the very intricate, closed-cell polymer foam tucked inside our spacer. Standard aluminum spacers simply cannot match up with that.
